Easter is celebrated May 2 in the Greek Catholic & Orthodox religion

5part-icon Easter is celebrated May 2 in the Greek Catholic and Orthodox religion. The difference in the dates is because they are following the Gregorian, not the Julian, calendar. The Easter season begins with Lent. All the houses were cleaned during Easter Week. On Easter Sunday after Mass, families celebrated with dinner together. The Kaszucki family originated from Uhnow, Ukraine and were Greek Catholic. My grandfather’s mother (Katarzyna nee Kaszucka) was baptized Greek Catholic but married a Roman Catholic. It doesn’t appear that her daughters were baptized Greek Catholic, as was sometimes the custom, but that the family transitioned to Roman Catholicism. Some of Katarzyna’s cousins remained Greek Catholic or became Orthodox. ***** Anonimous, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons
