Klementyna Gołębiowska (My Grandpa’s 1st wife) Was Born March 13 1896
Klementyna Gołębiowska (my grandpa Anthony Raczkiewicz’ first wife) was born 13 March 1894 at 8:00 in the morning. .She was born on the same day as her husband but two years later. Her death record has the wrong date but her husband was likely reporting it and the immigrants often didn’t know exactly when their birthday was.
She was from the same area of Poland--she was born in the city of Tomaszów Lubelski and he was born in the nearby village of Sabaudia.
Her father Wojceich, 35, was a blacksmith in the city. Her mother was 37 year old Katarzyna nee Roczniak.
The witnesses were Ludwik Skibiński, 45 and Konstanty Kudlicki, 34, both from Tomaszow. Her Godparents were Ludwik and Antonina Roczniak.
Her name is written various ways: Klementyna, Clementina

Klementyna Immigrates To the U.S.
In March of 1913, Anthony’s future first wife, 17 year old Klementyna Goleiowska, (my grandfather Anthony Raczkiewicz’ first wife) traveled to the U.S, six months after Anthony. She landed in New York with a final, planned destination of Grand Rapids, Michigan. She had a brother-in-law, Wicenty Zyzyk who was already in the U.S but the ship manifest is not legible enough to discern where he was living. She was a 17 year old servant girl traveling with a friend, Paulina Malec, a 17 year old farm hand. Also on the ship from the same home town of Tomaszow was Katarzyna Nadowornik , a 45 year old housewife and her children Feliska, 17, Katarzyna, 14 and Joseph, 11. Katarzyna was a witness later at Antoni and Klementyna’s wedding on 20 June, 1916.
Klementenya left from Rottendam, Holland and arrived in New York on March 11, 1913. When I wrote this at the beginning of February 2020, I didn’t know if they knew each other In Tomaszow or met in Grand Rapids. Since then I have learned that someone with Klementyna’s maiden name was named Godfather for Anthony at his birth. When Klementyna immigrated from Poland, several people from Tomaszow were traveling with her and their destination was also Grand Rapids. Katarzyna Nadowomik, 45, a widow and her children Felika, 14, Katarzyna, 14, and Jozef, 11 were traveling with her. One of them ended up being one of the witnesses at the wedding --Catherine Nadwomik. The other witness was Anthony’s brother Joseph. Clementena’s sister, Marya Golebiowska, immigrated the same year as her, arriving August 5 1913. She traveled to Grand Rapids from Tomaszow with Stanislawa Kudlicka (and Anthony’s brother John married Frances Kudlicka.)
(BTW, Klementyna’s mother’s maiden name is Roczniak. I recently had the pleasure of communicating with some of Andrzej Dubiels relatives--Joan Kessler and Sue Vandenberg. Their relative Anna Dubiel had immigrated to Emmett, Michigan. They had a picture of her and her family that I asked about. I also know that the family that Klementyna and my grandfather Anthony visited in Bay City, Michigan when their daughter was born, that the wife’s maiden name was also Roczniak. I am sure I will find more connections!)

Franciszek Golebioski died February 13, 1813
Franciszek Golebioski (my 5x great grandfather) died on February 13, 1813 at 10:00 in the morning. He was sixty years old when he died so he was born about 1753. Birth years of relatives in the 1750s is as far back as I have been able to find-- and I haven’t found their birth records. The birth year is assumed from the age in the wedding and death records.
One declarant was his son Michal Golembioski, a 40 year old peasant farmer residing in Gurnia. On January 29, Michal had married for the first (or second?) time and his father passed away two weeks later. MIchal’s sister Apolonia is my 4x great grandmother.
The other declarant was Jan Raszkiewicz, age 38 and a neighbor. Figuring out which “Jan Raszkiewicz” it likely was, is a process of determining what makes sense. He was 38 and it was the year 1813 so I know he was a Jan that was likely born around 1775. I have a 4x great grandfather that was born about 1775 so he is a possibility. This death record says that Franciszek died at home, in Gurnia at house number 20 so I needed to check if I know where each Jan Raszkiewicz lived. The house number is rarely seen in the records I am looking at but it turns out that Jan lived at #71 in the same village at this time. Also, Franciszek is his father-in-law so it is likely that it is him. Hopefully I didn’t lose you with this explanation but I wanted to give you a glimpse into how all the pieces of information are like a puzzle that can sometimes be put together. I do not need to “prove” the witnesses like I do with determining who the relatives are, but it is kind of nice to figure this out. ********************************

Declarants- Michał Gołembioski, 40 , peasant farmer residing in Gurnia , son of deceased and Jan Raszkiewicz, age 38 , neighbour .

Michal Golebiowski Married at Least 4 Times?
So far, it looks like Jan Raszkiewicz and Apolonia Golabiowska (my 5 time great grandparents) were each only married once -- to each other. It looks like Apolonia’s brother Michal wasn’t quite so lucky and was married three, maybe four times. The translator that helped thought it might be four, maybe five times.
On the 1812 marriage record for today, January 29, it states that Michal was a widower. His first wife Agnes died on December 3, about two months before. The first bann was announced January 19 and the second one was three days before the wedding. Because they were hurrying to marry, it is possible that he had young children that needed care. The bride was Miss Rozalia Gorbula, age 27. She presented an Act of Knowing from the Tomaszów Court of Peace stating her age and her parents weren’t present or mentioned so they may have been deceased. The witnesses were Wawrzyniec Turek ,36 , Jan Raszkiewicz ,40, Maciej Wujcik ,41, and Antoni Kulicki ,30-- for some reason four witnesses when there were usually two.
When he married his fourth wife February 7, 1825, it referred to his third wife’s funeral record but it didn’t name her. As I work my way through the records, I may find out who she is. He was a 58 year old widower still working as a peasant farmer In Majdan Górny. The bride was 41 year old Marianna (Sawiak) Dzierowa. She also was widowed and her husband, a peasant farmer in Majdan Górny, had died 17 years before. Jan Raszkiewicz, 48 , Wasyli Sawiak ,50 , Paweł Gołąb, 34 and Wawrzeniec Turek ,48 , all peasant farmers living in Majdan Górny were the witnesses.
Here is a list of his possible wives::
Wife 1: Agnes or Jagnieszka
Wife 2: Rozalia Gorbula
Wife 3: Unknown or was it Rozalia?
Wife 4: Marianna (Sawiak) Dzierowa

Apolonia Gobebiowska (4x great grandmother) Dies Dec. 16
176 years ago, Apolonia (Gołębiowska) Raszkiewicz (my 4th great grandmother) died Monday, December 16,1844 at 6 p.m.. She left behind her husband Jan Raszkiewicz, age 66. They were peasant farmers in Majdan Górny. Her parents were Franciszek and Katarzyna Gołębiowski who also had been peasant farmers in Majdan Górny. Her parents were born in the 1750-60s and this was as far back on any of the branches I have been able to go. (I have identified 7 of the 16 couples of the 5x great grandparents.)
On Wednesday, at 10am, her husband Jan andAndrzej Typek, 44, another peasant farmer, went the 4.5 miles to Tomaszów to report her death at 10 a.m..
According to her death record, she was 52 years old but according to her age in her children’s birth records, I think she was 59. The database I am using does not have her birth record from approximately 1785 since it doesn’t go back that far for this area. That doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist or it isn’t online. I might be able to find it someday.
Apolonia and Jan lived in house #71 in Majdan Górny. Since their son Michal (my 3x great grandparent) was the oldest, he and his wife were having their first child when his mother was having her 7th. Michal and Anna lived in house #100 in Majdan Górny, the house of Tomasz Dominik, Anna's father. I think it is really cool to have house numbers from that long ago! They aren’t in very many of the records.
I am currently working on having Apolonia’s other children’s records translated so I am learning about the whole family. Besides Michal (my 3x great grandfather) it looks like the other children were Jan, Katarzyna, Peter, Wojciech, Simon, Marcin, and Agnes,
