The Story of Michal Raczkiewicz & Anna Dominik
Michał Raczkiewicz (my 3x great grandfather) was born around 1805 in Majdan Górny, Poland. His parents were Jan Raczkiewicz and Apolonia nee Gołębiowska. He was the oldest of their nine children. His father Jan was born in Łaszczówka and his mother in Majdan Górny. The family farmed in Majdan Górny .
Michał was their oldest child out of nine children. Four of the five last children died young in the time period of 1841-1851. Their cause of death is not given. During this time period, the peasants were struggling against serfdom and there were famines as well as cholera and typhus outbreaks.
Michał was a 19 year old bachelor living with his parents when he got married on January 17, 1824 at 12:00 p.m. The bride was 18-year-old Anna Dominik, born about 1806 to Tomasz Dominik and Regina Wójcik, who were peasants in the same village.
The banns were announced previously on January 4th and January 11. The witnesses were Marcin Kukiełka, 40, Józef Pyc, 35, Sobek Jeruzal Sobek, 35, and Piotr Sobek, 40, all peasants residing in the village of Maydan Górny. Anna was 18 years old and also never before married. She lived with her parents Tomasz Dominik and Regina Wójcik, who were peasants in the same village. *****
Michał and Anna had eleven children between 1824 and 1850. Four of the last five children died as infants and all of the others remained as farmers in Majdan Górny or Sabaudia except for Jakub who ended up in Jezernia. Michał must have moved to Sabaudia between 1846 and 1850 since all of his children were born in Majdan Górny until the last one Anna was born in Sabaudia in 1850. *****
Jan (b.1824) did not have Godparents listed but the witnesses were Stanisław Dominik (not sure of Stan’s relation to Jan’s mother) and Kazimierz Mazur. Jan married Katarzyna Pisarczyk, a widow from Majdan Górny, and they had seven children. He died a widower at age 66 and Jan Skurz from Sabaudia and Jan Karwal, from Gorno, reported the death.

He was a widower for six months and was a colonist in Majdan Górny. Witnesses were Marcin Jetycha and Andrzej Pyca, colonists from Sabaudia. I am not sure where they moved from to be colonists in this area. She died in 1862 and her father Michał Raszkiewicz and Jozef Benter, age 25 from Sabaudia, reported her death.
Marcin (b. 1832) had Godparents of Kazimierz Mazur and Anna Dominik with Antoni Fusiarz also a witness. He married Aponia Tukiendorf (or Dukiendorf) who was born in Horyszow Polski but living in Sabaudia. Witnesses were Marcin Telych and Andrzej Pyc, farmers from Sabaudia. Marcin died in 1857 and his father Michał and Jan Skurz reported his death.

She married in 1857 to Jan Reholicz (Rekolicz), who was born in Majdan Górny to an unwed mother. His mother was deceased and he was living in Sabaudia. Witnesses were Marcin Tetrych and Andrzej Zajac.
Jakub (b 1837) had Godparents of Marcin Wójcik, from Majdan Górny and Anna Deryłówna. Another witness was Jan Luty, also from Majdan Górny. He married Katarzyna Kędra in 1855. Bartłomiej Skiba, a lineman from Jezernia and Jan Jerzy Bendera, a colonist living in Sabaudia were witnesses. He died a widower at age 70. Witnesses were Jan, his brother and Bartłomiej Nuga, both farmers in Jezernia.
Blazej (b. 1840) had Godparents of Michał Raszkiewicz and Anna Krawczyk. Another witness was Sebastian Jeruzal, Both men were from Majdan Górny. He died at age one and a half and Jakub Derslo, another farmer from Majdan Górny, went with his father to report the death.
Antoni (b. 1842) (my 2x great grandfather) moved to Sabaudia within two years of his marriage to Marianna Grabek who was also from Majdan Górny.
Alexsander (b. 1845) had Godparents of Antoni Jeruzal and Katarzyna Mazurowa. She died at five weeks old with Jan Raszkiewicz, age 60 (not sure who) accompanying her father to report the death.
Andrzej (b. 1846) had Maciej Rysniak and Sebastian Jeruzal, farmers from Majdan Górny , witnesses and Maciej and Anna Herdowa were the Godparents. He died at age two, reported by his father and Jan Kozak, a farmer from Sabaudia.
Anna (b. 1850) had witnesses of Jacek Rucki and Wojciech Herda. Godparents were Jacek and Anna Herda. She died at nine months old and Maciej Rysiuki from Sabaudia, helped to report the death. *****
DEATHS AND REMARRIAGE *****
When he was about 64 years old, his wife Anna died on June 23, 1869 at the age of 63. There is no cause of death written in the death record, but it was during a cholera epidemic. Jan Skurcz and Józef Bender, peasants from Sabudia, helped report the death. Around six months later on January 16, 1870, Jan remarried at the age of 67. The bride was Katarzyna Szczepnaik who had been widowed five years earlier. She was 47 years old and was born in the village of Sznury to Łukasz Krawczyk and Marianna Bucior (my 5x great grandparents) from Łaszczówka. She was living in Rudka/Rutka. The witnesses were Marcin Raczkiewicz, 48, one of Michał’s younger brothers from Majdan Górny and Jan Skurcz, 30, from the village of Sabaudia. *****
Katarzyna died on February 1, 1878 at the age of 50 in the village of Sabaudia, leaving behind her widowed husband Michał. The death was reported by Jan Skurcz, 40 (again) and Tomasz Kędra, 38, both peasants from Sabaudia. Tomasz was the second husband of their daughter-in-law Marianna Grabek since Michał’s son Antoni (my 2x great grandfather) had died ten years earlier. *****
Michał died in the village of Sabaudia on November 4, 1882. He lived to the age of 80. The witnesses were both 45-year-old farmers from Sabaudia. One witness for the third time was Jan Skurcz. The other witness was Jakub, the sixth child of Michał and his wife Anna. He had written a will leaving his farm to his grandson Jan Raczkiewicz.
